OUR PROCESS
We turn waste into clean energy while capturing carbon
How it works
Collection
Your non-recylable trash is collected, like any other day—but instead of being dumped into the landfill, it’s transported to a Varme waste-to-energy facility.
Energy Generation
The heat generated from this process creates steam, which, in turn, drives a turbine. The turbine generates clean electricity to heat and power homes and businesses in your community.
Combustion
Upon arrival, the waste is placed into a combustion chamber, where it’s converted into steam at over 1,000°C.
Recovery
Metals and other valuable materials are separated, sorted, recycled, and reused. By giving new life to these materials, we cut down on the need for new mining and smelting operations, which helps conserve natural resources and reduces our collective impact on the environment.
Carbon Capture
Emissions generated are captured and safely stored using carbon capture and sequestration technology, making the entire waste-to-energy process carbon-negative.

Reduce, reuse, recycle, recover
Despite our best efforts to reduce, reuse, and recycle, there will always be waste left behind. With Varme’s waste to energy facilities, that leftover waste is no longer a burden. Instead, it’s transformed into valuable, sustainable energy that powers our communities. Together, we can close the loop on waste.
